RULES...
LOVE 'EM OR HATE 'EM... WE GOTTA HAVE 'EM!

Can you believe the Pup's been on the web for over 10 years? While my season recaps only go back to 2000, I was around in 1998, with "Just One Of Them Racin' Deals". (Can you say 'AOL'?) The 2010 Sprint Cup season marks our fifth year for the current format, a format we like to call the 'NO JIVE 25'. This is where I take all the registered teams and put them into groups of roughly 25. (I've seen 24 at times. I've seen 28 to 29 at times.) I suppose 'divisions' is a better word than groups, so we'll use that term from here on out. Let's take a look at how Pup's contest is played...

1) In 2010, divisions will be set initially by the cities of our players. Following segments will see the divisions being reshuffled with the finishing order from the previous segment setting the divisions for the following one. Expect last minute tweaks to the divisions to accomodate residences with multiple teams (see #2 below) and to fill in spots where teams decide not to return and create an extreme imbalance in the division counts.

2) When a single residence registers two or more teams, I will put them in separate divisions. As the season progresses, as long as you don't have more teams than the Pup has divisions, I will continue to keep your teams separated. NOTE: I am not obligated to do this. I just think it's more fun if everyone in your house has a chance to win their divison. If you email me after I've set the divisions, you might have to run one segment together (sorry), but I'll set it up so future segments keep your teams separated.

3) The official Sprint Cup points system is used here at the site. You can confirm your team's score by visiting NASCAR Online. Simply add up the points next to your drivers' names to arrive at your score. If you see 'PE' (points exempt) next to a driver's name, no problem. Pup still awards the points for that position (even though NASCAR does not) less bonus points, if any. Penalties that take drivers' points are NOT deducted from YOUR scores.

4) The driver groups are established before the start of each segment. They do not change again until the next segment. This means you can pick a line-up for the first race and let it ride for the remaining five races, if you're so inclined. At the end of a segment, Pup throws out your line-up and you'll pick a new six-pack of drivers. Those teams who fail to submit a new line-up will get Pup's 'Courtesy Team'. Some leagues throw out your worst scores. We do not. The courtesy team is Pup's way of making sure you score points for every event.

5) All teams field six drivers. The site does not permit you to submit a line-up with anything less. When you click the 'SEND PICKS' button at the bottom of your MYGARAGE page, you will be taken to a confirmation page. Review it carefully! Click the big bar at the bottom of the page if you're happy with your choices. You'll return to your garage where you'll have a second opportunity to confirm your picks.

6) Deadlines for driver changes are based on the SCHEDULED start of the race, NOT THE ACTUAL drop of the green flag. In other words, should something like rain delay the start of a race for several hours or even postponed the race to the following day or later, the deadline does NOT move with it.

The trading deadline always comes at the top of the hour: 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, etc. So, whether a race is scheduled to start at 3:10pm or 3:21pm or 3:47pm, the deadline in each of these cases would be 3pm. If you're confused, siimply drop by the SCHEDULE page and look at the next to last column. It will show you the cut-off time for the race.
* * * NOTE: Cut-off times are always reflected in Eastern Time (ET)! * * *

7) Once the deadline for driver changes has come, everyone is locked out until Tuesday. You will be able to log into your GARAGE and see the drivers at the bottom page but no changes will be accepted.

8) When you select a driver, you are selecting only the driver and not the car. Remember NASCAR awards the driver's points to the person who starts the race. Example: You picked Jeff Burton in the #31 car but 10 minutes before the race starts, Richard Childress throws Kenny Wallace into the car when Jeff becomes extremely ill. Herminator takes the green flag. Guess what. You receive 0 points for Jeff.

9) While the cash prizes for the league are healthy, they won't permit anyone to retire in the near future. For this reason we'll use a tie-breaker, if necessary, to determine the division winners and segment champions. We will NOT, however, use tie breakers for the high score for the race winners in each division.

10) Should a tie exist when trying to crown a division, segment, or OCC champ, the winner will be determined by the team with the higher score in the segment's final race. If a tie persists, the winner will be determined by the team with the higher score for each of the previous races until the tie is broken. On the chance two or more teams have the same weekly scores for all races in a segment, prize money will be split evenly.

The NO JIVE 25 entry fee is $100* per year, per team. No hidden fees! No charge for driver changes! Unlimited drivers changes, too! Pup has divided the 36 Sprint Cup 'point' races into six segments with six races per segment. That $100 entry fee covers all 36 races. No desire to hang for the year? Play any one segment this year for just $20.

* Last year we CONTINUED a tradition! The 'Overall Champ Check' contest. This is OPTIONAL. The cost is $25, bringing your total for the year to $125. For complete details on the 'OCC', check the THE OCC page. The big money winner in 2009 was 'PACK 1 Racing' who scored 26,884 points over the 36 races. They won $1000 for being the OVERALL champ! Don't forget, I paid the top four teams in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Checks or Money Orders are acceptable ways to pay your entry fees. Please make checks and money orders payable to Stan Yedlowski (NOT PitPup.Com) and mail them to the New Jersey address just below. Effective 2010, I am no longer accepting PayPal after having done so since 2000! They made a change in their "acceptable use" policy in October of 2009 and the time has come to part ways. Their service was convenient for all involved, and the split is certainly regrettable.

When your fees arrive, I'll update the site and you'll receive an email confirming the update. Please include the PitPupID, Password, Name, and Mailing Address for ALL teams you are paying for... it makes it so much easier!
